Should I NIPT?

FTS shows high risk of trisomy 1:43. So that’s a 2% chance. I can’t decide to wait or take the NIPT test. Anyone having the same results as me?

I totally understand the anxiety, 1:43 is stressful to sit with, but please know you're not alone! My friend went through almost the exact same thing, her FTS came back high risk and her doctor at KKH recommended she do NIPT next, and she said it gave her so much more clarity than just waiting and worrying, turns out her NIPT came back low risk and she could finally breathe. Someone in my mum WhatsApp group mentioned that KKH actually had a discount package last time if you needed both the FTS and NIPT done, so worth asking the counter about that. I also know a mummy whose NIPT came back high risk after her FTS, and even then she said she was grateful she knew early so she could prepare and make informed decisions rather than be shocked later, so the test really helps either way, whether result good or not so good. Honestly lah, I think the hardest part is the waiting and not knowing, and NIPT at least gives you a much higher accuracy than FTS alone. That said, every situation is different, so please do have a proper chat with your gynae or a specialist who knows your full history before deciding, they can really walk you through what makes most sense for you.

Exact same here, freaking out cos mine shows high risk 1:41 and NT value is above normal. My Gynae straight ask me do Amniocentesis (invasive testing that has 1:300 chance of miscarriage) at KKH I asked him about NIPT he said if results same I still need to do Amniocentesis. He didnt arrange for NIPT so yesterday I went to JB and do NIPT instead, now still waiting results..

After discussing with my husband and family, we decided to proceed with the amnio if the 20-week scan was normal. If there were any major structural issues, we wouldn't continue the pregnancy. The 20-week scan showed the baby is structurally fine and the NT is now within the healthy range. However, they found an echogenic bowel and recommended an amnio. At KKH, another scan found a small lump near the liver, so they wanted to test for possible infection as well. In the end, the amnio sample was sent for three tests. The PCR result is already back and clear, but we're still waiting another week for the other two results, and very costly 🥲

If it were me, I would do the NIPT for extra reassurance. I had an abnormal screening result before and the waiting was more stressful than the test itself. NIPT isn’t diagnostic, but it’s more accurate than FTS and gave me more peace of mind while waiting for further advice from my gynae. ❤️
