Bed for 1y+

Find his cot too small for him to roll around. I don’t want him to be able to get out of bed on his own. Any idea what is a good bed solution? Can I get a single size mattress and install those bed guards around the mattress?

I moved my son to a single bed with bed guard after he turned 1. but he prefers to sleep on the floor mattress
