Fertility test needed?
Hi! Are fertility tests only for those who suspect they have fertility issues? Can I just go for a check anyway while trying to conceive?
Hi, yes you definitely should if you are keen. I was trying for 4 years and never got pregnant. Went for fertility checks while still trying to conceive. At the 5th year and still did not conceive, my doctor recommended to try artificial insemination methods. I finally got pregnant through ivf at my 6th year of marriage and I am already 34. It was during fertility checks that we found out my husband and I both have diabetes which lowers the fertility rate even though we should still be able to conceive naturally. I am glad i went for fertility checks, otherwise, i might have given up on giving birth or even feel like a failure not being able to carry a child. If the checks shows no risk, then nothing to worry about. My friend went as well. At 30. Found out fallopian tubes were blocked. Did a minor day surgery, and conceived naturally 2 months after the surgery.
Read morei went fertility check in end dec, after 3mths+ wedding. my initial idea was to ensure both if us are ok before we start trying. ended up i found out i grew dermoid cyst (with hair bone skin) 5cm+ huge. so i immediately went for laproscopic surgery, removed the dermoid cyst + multiple mini pcos in my uterus. i was discharged by gynae from the ops in mid mar22, realised im pregnant in early may22 (im in my 5th week). gynae told me if i never remove the cysts, future if i get pregnant, if the cysts might grow bigger, might affect pregnancy. if i undergo ops during pregnancy, chances of miscarriage is there. so.. i will be full hands up support people to go for fertility checks. you never know what you may find out. but its better to know early than late 💪
Read moreAs these fertility examinations do not come cheap, I'd suggest you go for it only if: 1. you have regular period cycles of 28 days 2. been trying for at least 6 months with no success even if you're regular in your period, but as long as it's not the 28 days cycle, it could mean something else. My friend's is a regular but on a 31 days cycle and she's diagnosed with PCOS which may affect success rate at conception. So if you satisfy the above 2 conditions, consult a fertility specialist, otherwise, you gotta consult an ob-gyn for further advice. All the best!
Read moreactually the official definition of "regular" is for a 28-day cycle. if it's longer or shorter, it can signal some form of hormonal imbalance that's causing this phenomenon - which is in the case of my friend with PCOS. ob-gyn are ones who can deal with detailed transvaginal/pelvic checks on what's causing the problem after preliminary blood tests. fertility clinics just straightaway dive in to those extensive (hence expensive) packages for checks on your blood and sperm count+quality for the husband immediately. that's why I would recommend that, if you've really been trying monthly for 6 months or more (with diligence like using ovulation kits to hit peak ovulation for intercourse) with no results, then go straight to fertility clinics, but be prepared to drop big bucks. if not, you can consider the cheaper route with ob-gyn checks first.
I went for a fertility check at a private hosp immediately after marriage before we started TTC. They call it a preconception check up. Reason being is that my hubs has thalassemia and there is a risk for the baby if I am too. So I did blood tests and all. During the fertility check, found out that my hubs has low morphology (treatable with good lifestyle & supplements) so doctor prescribed sperm supplements. The whole thing did costs quite ex though but glad we found out about how our fertility status is.

yes, good to go for checks if you 2 tried at least 6-12 months and still not conceive.. go polyclinic to get referral will be better..
