Choosing KKH - Subsidised Route
Does anyone know what is the level of the gynae (e.g. Associate consultant) if I were to see the gynae under the public option? Also, has anyone started off with public and then change to private subsequently? When is a good time to do so? Second trimester?
Different people are rostered to the clinic, anywhere from medical officers, registars, to associate consultants and consultants. You won’t be seen by the same person each time. I think it depends on what’s important to you.. are you okay with being examined (including vaginal examination) by different people, as long as they’re medical professionals? Is the delivery the most important component to you, such that you want to have a fixed gynae for that? Some people choose subsidised care, till it’s time to prepare for delivery (3rd trimester, and after all the routine scans and tests), so as to keep the costs down, because once you switch to private, all the prices are significantly different. The interval of visits become closer from the 3rd trimester onwards, and when you’re full term, your gynae may do more vaginal examinations.. so if you’d like to be examined by the same doctor, you may want to switch to private by then:) In the second trimester, most of the examinations are mainly doing the doptone to check baby’s heartbeat.. not very invasive in that sense. But at the end of the day, go with what you’re comfortable with:)
