My aunt, who recently gave birth, is concerned about her son's wee. It had orange stain. The baby is mix fed so dehydration can possibly be ruled out. Are urate crystals normal for newborns?

As far as I know, orange stains in diapers are urate crystals. This means the pee is more concentrated than the normal. This may or may not indicate a serious condition. For newborns, a few would normally go through this phase without any grave underlying cause. Best to seek pedia, methinks. Especially the baby is just days old.

I've read the newborn babies tend to have irregularities when passing urine so urate crystals should normally be no cause of concern. However, if it persists, call the pedia rightaway

That could be infection. Is the baby anxious and doesn't stop crying? Better to seek your pedia to find out what's wrong.
