Sleep issues

21 weeks and I am having frequent heartburn, bloating and back pain. So I sleep with my head elevated using pillow. But we are also told to avoid lying on our back from 2nd trimester onwards. My qn is how to sleep on our side and head elevated? Wouldn't it cause more back pain?Especially as heartburn would be worse when belly grows bigger.. Any remedy?

Totally understand the struggle, heartburn plus back pain together is really no fun! What I've generally heard works well is to sleep on your left side with a pillow tucked between your knees, which helps take the pressure off your back and also eases things off your liver and kidneys. A pregnancy pillow is actually great here because it supports your belly, keeps your knees aligned, and you can slightly prop your upper body at the same time, so you get the elevation for heartburn without lying flat on your back. My sister-in-law swore by this combination from her second trimester onwards and said it made a real difference. Some mums find the pregnancy pillow a bit bulky at first, but most seem to adjust after a few nights, probably worth trying before ruling it out.
