How do I manage urinary incontinence during pregnancy?

Incontinence is common during pregnancy, but it can be managed with the right habits. Schedule your bathroom breaks. There’s no way around it: When you’re pregnant, you’re going to have to excuse yourself to use the lady’s room more often. It is recommended to use the bathroom at least every two hours. Practice Kegels. Kegel exercises help to strengthen the pelvic floor and help you avoid leakage, but you need to practice in order to do them properly. You can start by stopping the flow of urine the next time you urinate. The contraction of those muscles is how you do a Kegel, and you can do Kegel exercises any time throughout the day, whether your bladder is full or empty. Simply contract the same muscles you would to stop the flow of urine, hold the contraction for a count of 10, and then release. It is recommended to do Kegel exercises 10 to 20 times in a row two or three times a day. Kegel exercises really do help with incontinence.Keep in mind that it takes about four to eight weeks of doing them regularly before you’ll see results. Watch the weight gain. Studies show that women who weigh more when they get pregnant or who gain an excessive amount of weight during pregnancy are more likely to experience urinary incontinence.

A Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) generally involves taking the blood of the mother to look for foetal cells to look at the genes/chromosomes of the baby. It is a chromosome assessment screening test, looking out for chromosomal problems, specifically chromosome number 21 (down syndrome), 18 (Edward syndrome) and 13 (Patau syndrome). Different companies offer different brands of NIPT tests.

What kind of activities can we do to teach Mandarin to young kids below 1yr old?

Hi Michelle, you can watch the videos on my website (www.dianaser.com). You may need to adapt them because your child is younger. I played a lot of music ( mommy sing along), read books and spoke to my kids when they were babies. Speak to him/her during routine activity like changing diaper, showering, eating etc. All the best!

What are some of the things we can do at home to prep our toddlers for childcare?

We explained childcare simply as school to my child. So we read books about going to school, we talked a lot about going to school and I also trial run the morning routine (waking up early, walking to school) for a week before she actually started cc. The last thing I wanted was for her to be cranky because she had to wake up early or there was a change in routine even before we entered the school premises. During a visit to the cc, I took some photos of the school premises and constantly referred and showed it to them prior to her commencement at the school.

Hi Kelly! What's ur proposed fitness regime for a mummy who has just finished confinement and has 30mins to spare everyday?

Be at least 6 weeks postpartum (longer if u are cesarean) and get doctor clearance before starting on exercise. Kelly suggested many things - brisk walk, swimming, light cardio, simple HIITS or TABATTA workouts, planks, push-up, squats, kettle bell swings/pull up. Try to do it 3 times a week at least - listen to ur body and stay hydrated. She did demo 5 exercises in the video: fire feet (or quick running on the spot), push up, high knees, alternate lunges, mountain climbers - do it 8 sets, 20 seconds workout with 10 seconds rest

what kind of TCm practices is safe and helps in conceiving?

I had a friend who tried TCM while preparing for IVF. She had acupuncture every week and was given medication, The best is to find a practitioner you can trust and follow what he/she recommends.

The ang mohs are not following confinement practices like us Chinese but they still grew up fine. Are there are medical evidence behind all these chinese confinement practices?

I didn't follow any of the confinement practices too and my gynae was surprised that my c-section wound recovered so fast! I was able to run at PP week 6 :)

How do I balance between respecting my child and not spoiling him or letting him think that he can get his way all the time?

I think being firm is the most important thing you can do. Being firm doesn't mean you are too negative or controlling. You can be firm while respecting your child's space and yet give him or her an indication that they are going against the line you've drawn earlier.
