Any support group?

There is the Thalassaemia Society Singapore, which is run by volunteers who are all holding full-time jobs on the side, so response times can vary, some parents find them very supportive, but a few mentioned you may need to be patient if things move a bit slowly. My neighbour brought her child to one of their events at KKH and said it was genuinely helpful to meet other families going through the same thing, especially for the blood donation drives they organise which directly benefit the kids. It is a small but caring community, so do reach out to them, just go in with realistic expectations about capacity. That said, since every child's condition is different, it is really worth having a proper conversation with your child's haematologist at KKH or whichever specialist is managing the case, as they can also point you to the most appropriate support for your specific situation.

Anyone kid with Thalessemia?

Hi there, you're definitely not alone in this! From what I've heard around, the Thalassaemia Society Singapore is a good starting point, it's run by patients and parents themselves, so the support feels very real and not just clinical. KKH also has a Family Support Centre that does counselling and a parents' support group, which a mum I know found really helpful especially in the early days when everything felt overwhelming. Honestly though, some parents feel the group sessions don't meet frequently enough, so just go in with realistic expectations rather than thinking it'll be a very active community straight away. Still worth trying both and seeing which one clicks better for your family.

How to wean off yaolan?

Hi, my bb is now 2.5 months. Previously I had no choice but to put her in yaolan after 1 month, as once she's put down in cot she will be awake or sleep for very short while. Sometimes even if I carry her to sleep, she will be awake with my slight movement. Now that she's slightly bigger, I have tried to put her to sleep in a non-moving yaolan. I will manual bounce until she's drowsy, and stop bouncing and and pat her butt to slp and she manage to fall asleep. when she stirs, I will pat her again. I have also tried putting her in cot and pat her but she fusses and cry. Night time after she fall asleep, we will transfer her to cot. Daytime mostly she naps in yaolan. My concern is that I'm afraid she won't be able to fall asleep without it if we go out, or short staycay. Anyone has experience? When do they start to learn to fall asleep on their own or when is a good time for them to wean off relying on motion to fall asleep? Any one has experience?

Honestly, 2.5 months is still quite early so don't stress yourself too much, most babies naturally start to self-settle better somewhere around 4 to 6 months when their sleep cycles mature a little. What you're already doing (stopping the bounce and patting her to sleep in a stationary yaolan) is actually a really good middle step, so you're on the right track without even realising it. My friend weaned her firstborn off the yaolan at around 4 months just by gradually reducing the motion each nap, and she said the key was consistency over a few days rather than going cold turkey, because cold turkey just led to a lot of crying with no real progress. For outings and staycays, honestly most babies are more adaptable than we think once they're slightly older, the unfamiliar environment sometimes even works in your favour because they're too tired to protest. Just keep doing what you're doing, and if she's settling in a still yaolan now, the cot transition will likely be less painful than you expect in another month or two.

Desitin on private area / change diaper brand

Hi, desitin be used on the labia of baby girls? If there is diaper rash even with frequent changing of diapers, does it mean that brand of diapers is not suitable for my baby?

she might be allergic to the cream. my girl had the same issue. so I stopped all creams and use water only. all the rashes gone and I'm still using water only for her.

Do u let newborn sleep with pillow?

Heard that pillow, blanket and toys should only be introduced when they are older as it pose as a risk of suffocation. When did u let your baby sleep with pillows and blankets?

Milk powder for newborn

Hiii my newborn is due soon and there are so many milk powders to choose from. I have seen many articles and there are some brands I should avoid but generally, most brands are relatively the same. Any suggestions for baby milk powder?

You can take Dulac/Dugro, Lactogen, S26, Similac or Nan OptiPro.
