Birthing Position

Hi Mommies! Does NUH subsidise allow patients to have any birthing positi we want? Especially for non medicated. On all fours or squatting? I don't want to be lying on my back. Thanks in advance! :)

probably not because not all nurse/doctors are trained for alternative birthing positions.

Baby kicks lesser

Just to check, now at 36w5d, is it normal that the kicks are less frequent?

At this stage baby is running out of room, so some change in movement pattern is possible, but I would weigh that against the fact that reduced kicks can sometimes be a sign worth checking out properly. The safer call is to go to the hospital or KKH triage rather than wait, because they can do a CTG trace and give you a proper picture quite quickly. It is one of those situations where getting it checked out costs you maybe an hour, but the peace of mind, or the early catch if something needs attention, is worth it.

Hello mummies who have given birth in KKH before, do they teach u how to take care of the infant (eg how to bath them, change diapers, burp them) before discharge?#firstmom #pleasehelp #advicepls #firstbaby

You may wish to ask bout bathing for infants. However for diapers, burping usually there will be a nurse to assist you and you may wish to hands on with them while they oversee you.

Postpartum massage

Do you require a postpartum massage after giving birth to the baby? If yes where is the good option? #budget

Best to have PP Massage. Helps in healing, helps in flatten tummy, helps to losing weight/water retention, pains, aches and helps in readjusting your inner organs or whatever necessary. Most importantly keeping warm with socks on, long top bottom, posture.

baby in sunny side up position - posterior position

Hi, currently at week 37 but am worried as the baby is facing upward. Anyone encountering the same as well? It seems that it can be more difficult to deliver and caused prolonged labor

Totally understand your worry, a posterior position at week 37 does raise the chances of a longer labour and more back pain during contractions, but the good news is many babies still rotate on their own before or even during labour, so it's not a done deal. Someone in my mum group mentioned that doing hands-and-knees positions regularly from 37 weeks onwards helped their baby turn before delivery, so that's worth asking your gynae about. The real trade-off to know is that if baby stays sunny side up at delivery, the head fits less neatly through the pelvis, which can mean a prolonged labour, more pressure on your back, and a slightly higher chance of needing assisted delivery or experiencing tearing, but vaginal birth is still very much possible. It's worth having an honest conversation with your OB about what your specific pelvis and baby's position look like closer to your due date, so you can plan together rather than wait and see.

Recording birth

Hi there, has anyone recorded their baby delivery in any government hospital? Do they allow that?

Hey! So from what I've heard, most government hospitals in Singapore do allow recording during delivery, but it really depends on the individual doctor and midwife on duty, some are fine with it, others prefer you keep it to the pushing stage only and not the more clinical parts. My friend delivered at SGH and said the staff there were generally accommodating as long as you ask beforehand and don't get in the way of the medical team. It's probably best to bring it up during one of your pre-natal check-ins so everyone is aligned before the big day, rather than springing it on them in the delivery suite. Some mums said their partners had no issues recording, while a few mentioned the nurse stepped in when the camera angle got too close to the medical procedures, so just be prepared that they may set some boundaries on what exactly can be filmed.

Anyone has experience of small baby and need to induce?

I am at 37 week now. My baby did not grow vs 2 weeks ago during my scan. The Gynae said I need to come back to her at week 38 to see if my baby grew. If not I need to induce. What should I do? Are there other alternatives?

what does she meant bby doesnt grow? whats ur bby wgt nw n do u hv any medical complications?

Congrats on your upcoming arrival! A few names have been floating around, AllTenTic has been established since 2008 and does home visits, KN Confinement Care also does house calls with limited daily slots (someone in my mum group shared their number, 6581025744), and Pamper Me Jamu Wellness at 88400741 was mentioned as doing November bookings too. Most of them fill up fast for November, so the general advice is to lock in your slot now rather than wait until closer to your EDD. Some mums loved the flexibility of home visits, though a few noted that because slots are limited daily, you may need to be a bit flexible on timing.
