Baby Swimming Lessons, why we are doing it, how it is going 🏊🏊♀️🏊♂️
Hi! I would like to share our experience in baby swimming lessons ^^ Baby girl was born in June 2025. At 3 months, we bought her a neck floater and would take her to the pool at least once a month until she was 9 months old. By March, upon turning 9 months, she started her weekly swimming classes at Bert Lozada Swim School @ Ace Water Spa. Reasoning: We have pool access via my parent’s place. We would feel more at ease if the baby has skills so that when she visits them, we know she has basic swimming skills. What we did to ready her for swim school: 1) Water exposure. She had parent led water play months before going to swim class. 2) Playschool. She does a private play school so that she can learn to be more adaptable to other people (like the swim coach). Another option is CDC (child development center), which is free in our area, check if your municipality/city offers it for free. (It is scheduled in line with the school year tho so advance enrollment is a must). I think these are the two important things (familiarization with pool water and adaptability to teacher) to consider if you plan to take your infant swimming. If they are afraid of water or refuses to let go of the parent, the baby would need more lessons to adapt to being comfortable swimming. Her progress: Clingy the first few sessions. Now at her 7th, she opens her body to the water, jumps to the pool when prompted, and can back float with assistance. She can also put her head underwater too. Bonus progress: Swim class was her first exposure to donut tower, putting balls in a basket, and putting shapes in a basket. We also have these toys at home. Has learned how to stack the donut tower by her fourth session. Putting balls in a basket by herself by her sixth lesson. And by her seventh lesson, putting shapes in the correct shape hole. Also learned the “If you’re happy” song gestures in association to the song itself. Verdict: If you can afford it and if the baby and family has regular access to a pool, swim class is a must activity for the baby. Baby will grow skills, the mother will have a fun activity, and the family will get a structure/schedule so you don’t get stuck in the house. If you don’t have regular pool access, I think it is okay for baby to wait until they are 3-4, but still, acclimate them to pools and people before taking lessons so the lessons won’t be wasted to toddler flailing and tantrums. #swimbaby #swimmingclasses #infantswimming #babyswimming #babyswim
