For me at 38w 3d is to check baby’s heart rate and the result of my GBS (which was positive and I needed antibiotics before I can give birth). Then if you haven’t given birth by 39 weeks, they’ll do a membrane sweep which will cause you to go into labour within the next few days. A membrane sweep is a common procedure performed after 39 weeks of pregnancy to induce labor naturally. It's performed by a healthcare provider and involves them inserting gloved fingers into your cervix to loosen your amniotic sac from your uterus. For my firstborn, my gynae did a membrane sweep at 39w 3d and I went into labour 3 days after that. Delivered my baby girl on her EDD. But, it could be different for your case so as much as possible try to go for your last few appts in case there is something they need to update you before you give birth.

37 weeks 4 days today and only had a ultrasound during today’s and last week’s appointment to check baby heartbeat and size/weight

For mine, only normal ultrasound scan every week.
