How to count the weeks the baby is in?

wen i went to see gynae ,from the scan it shows 8 weeks..but wen i counted it was 7 weeks..so which one m i to follow? 11 aug shows 8 weeks...my next appt is 25 aug..guess it will b 10 weeks , as per my calculation its 9 weeks..which one to rely on?
