I haven't had a torn ACL myself, but I know a few mums who've gone through it and honestly it's tough with young kids at home. Recovery timelines vary a lot depending on whether you do surgery and how your physio goes, so I'd really encourage you to have a detailed chat with your orthopaedic surgeon about what the realistic timeline looks like for you and what modifications you'll need early on. In the meantime, it might be worth thinking about who can help you during the first few weeks at least - whether that's family, a helper, or even just friends doing school runs or meal prep, because you really can't rush this one. It's better to plan ahead than end up pushing too hard and setting yourself back. Wishing you all the best with it.
Hi! I had my ACL surgery with Dr Henry Chan, my orthopaedic doctor in Singapore. Recovery definitely takes time, but my doctor was hands on before, during and after the surgery. One thing I learned is not to rush recovery. Follow your surgeon’s instructions, keep up with your prescribed physiotherapy exercises and work gradually on regaining your knee strength and range of motion. Don’t push yourself too hard, especially if you experience pain or swelling, and attend your follow up appointments to monitor your progress. Everyone heals at a different pace, so be patient with yourself and take it one step at a time. Hope this helps! 🤍🙏
