I don't have any specific ones to recommend, but we did have a lot of fishes growing up! I'd say to look into these few things: 1) Fishes that excite/interest your child - bring her to an aquarium/fish farm and let her explore the different types of fishes and interact with them! You can even go to places like Qian Hu Fish Farm to let her experience catching fish with a net (not sure if they still provide this, but you can check!). 2) Find out more about the fish's natural habitat, behavioural and physical characteristics - you'd need to understand what kind of water the fish lives in, what they eat, do they like big spaces to swim in, how big they end up growing up to etc. Pick fishes that mainly enjoy roaming around and won't grow till the size of your tank, and then find "buddies" for it - some fishes like to be the only one in the tank while others like a companion or two of their own species (check on their gender preferences too, some fishes only like to be with the same gender!) - you should also make sure you don't get two species that don't like each other in the same tank to avoid horror scenes! 3) Consider some other fishes that can help with tank cleanliness like the sucker fish. It stays around the surrounding of the tank and mainly feeds on the things like algae :) 4) Other than fishes, make sure you also look into making their habitat as natural as possible - things like water filters, water pumps, corals, reefs, stones etc. Some fishes tend to prefer hiding in the reefs so you can get SOFT fake ones so they do not hurt the fishes! You'd also need the right kind of water (or water supplement) and fish feed for the fishes, making sure you understand how often and how much they need to be fed too :) A small tank may also help to "quarantine" any sick fishes in future, so it doesn't affect the other fishes.
