Things you can try if labour stalls or is progressing slowly.
Sometimes labour can feel like it's going well then everything slows down or comes to a halt. .
There are a few simple things that you can try to get things going again. Nipple stimulation can help release oxytocin, the hormone that is required to make your uterus contract. You can use a breast pump if available or simply use your hands to massage/twiddle your nipples
.
If a baby is in a non optimal position such as back to back (sunny side up) the contractions may be irregular as the head isnt pressingon the cervix very well. Changing position like laying on your side or all fours may help to turn baby and help them move further down the pelvis.
.
Ultimately the body needs to be in a relaxed state to contract effectively so anything you can do to create a positive calm environment may also help with a slow labour. Massage and warm baths are often a popular choice!
.
Peanut balls are becoming extremely popular in labour too. They can be great for opening the pelvis to make it easier for baby to work their way down.

If you had a labour that was intermittent or that stalled, what did you do to help it along?
