Newborn drinking water

Hi there, I'm a FTM here... and was just wondering at which age do you all introduce water to your little one? Would they be able to consume water?

Hi there! Congratulations on being a first-time mom! It's great that you're seeking advice on this topic. Introducing water to your little one is an important step, but it's essential to do it at the right time. For newborns, it's generally recommended to exclusively breastfeed or formula-feed for the first six months. During this time, babies get all the hydration they need from breast milk or formula. They don't require any additional water, and giving them water too early can actually interfere with their intake of essential nutrients from breast milk or formula. After six months, when you start introducing solid foods, you can also start offering small sips of water from a cup. This helps them get used to the taste and sensation of drinking water. It's best to offer water between meals, rather than with meals, to avoid filling up their little tummies and affecting their appetite for solid foods. In hot weather or if your baby seems extra thirsty, you can offer a few sips of water even before six months, but it's crucial not to overdo it. Just a small amount to quench their thirst is enough. Always make sure the water is clean and safe for your baby to drink. If you're concerned about your baby's hydration or have specific questions about introducing water, it's a good idea to consult with your pediatrician for personalized guidance. I hope this helps! Enjoy this exciting journey of motherhood and feel free to ask if you have any more questions. Wishing you and your little one all the best! https://invl.io/cll6she
