When you breastfeed, you burn 500 calories per day. For a breastfeeding mom, you really don't need special food. Plenty of fruits and vegetables is very much recommended however, you still need starch from bread or rice, wholegrain for fiber; lean meat, eggs, dairy products for protein source. The general understanding is that you need an additioanl 500 calories per day when you breastfeed. I don't think there's a one-size-fits-all diet that best suits breastfeeding mom. Just your basic wholesome food groups, and avoiding alcohol and too much caffeine. Fruits are definitely approved, but I don't think a fruit only diet is very practical for getting all of your daily requirements.
