Backflow Protector For spectra S9+

Do you sterilize the backflow Protector with the white membrane inside for spectra S9+ for the first time use? If yes, do u still need to sterilize for every subsequent use?

The manufacturer advice for silicon is to only sterilize them in hot water or steam. Best to avoid uv sterilizers.
