Waalaikum assalam, mama! Honestly, this is such an important question and the rulings can differ based on different Islamic schools, so I'd really encourage you to reach out to your local mosque or an Islamic scholar who can give you a clear answer based on your specific situation, especially since you have GDM and are pregnant. From what I understand, there's a difference between making up the fasts later (qadha) and paying fidyah (feeding someone in need), but the exact combination depends on your circumstances and the guidance you receive. What matters most right now is that you're taking care of yourself and baby, and any knowledgeable imam will understand that pregnancy with GDM is a valid reason to not fast. Do check with your PD as well to make sure you're managing the GDM well during Ramadhan, even with the fasting adjustments.
