Child Development Assessment

Recently we went to NUH for Child Development Assessment. From the test results , shown that he don't have Autism/Adhd but related to behavioural problems. He has really really really the worst tantrums, he is 3yrs old this year. Any parent out there curious that Austic/Adhd can occur at a later age? Let's say now he test don't have. He is 3yrs old. The reason we went to the centre, is because the preschoolers teachers told us about Early Intervention can help if he diagnose Autism/Adhd. Seems like my child behave differently from others. I'm worry if the doctor misdiagnose my child now will be to late for Early Intervention. Any parents out there feel or experience the same?

I can understand why you are worried, because at 3 years old, some assessments can look different as the child grows and develops. It might be worth going back to the NUH team and asking them directly whether a follow-up review is recommended down the road, since developmental profiles can sometimes become clearer with time. Even without an Autism or ADHD diagnosis, the behavioural concerns your teachers flagged are still real and worth addressing, so do ask the doctor whether he can still access any support programmes based on his current profile. Getting a second opinion from another developmental paediatrician is also a reasonable option if you feel unsettled, because peace of mind matters too and it is better to explore all avenues now while he is still young.
