Reason for Celebration: Closure of the Polio Outbreak
Now, that's a major win for public health and for the nation!
The WHO and DOH announced that the polio outbreak in the country is over. This, after a resurgence of polio in the country in September 2019 after two decades of declaring the Philippines as polio-free.
Polio is a highly infectious, crippling and sometimes fatal disease that can be avoided with a vaccine. Children under the age of five are particularly vulnerable. This is why it is important that we vaccinate our kids against it. Ask your doctor or health provider for more information.
