Sending kids to programming classes

Hi parents, if you have the time and budget, will this be a serious consideration?

My husband is programmer and I think it's a good skill to have but not sure if it's beneficial for young kids. It's important to develop their creativity and critical thinking skills but I think there are better ways to develop those than programming classes where they need to learn by heart a bunch of syntax.
