Viral meningitis (enterovirus)

Hi parents, My baby (12 days old) was diagnosed with viral meningitis caused by an enterovirus. I’m devastated and still trying to process everything. She has been discharged from the hospital, but she'll need developmental follow-ups for the next two years to monitor her progress. I was wondering if any parents here have gone through something similar. If so, would you be willing to share your experience? How is your child doing now, and are they developing normally?

Oh mum, I'm so sorry you're going through this. It's completely normal to feel devastated right now, but the fact that she's home and you have a clear follow-up plan is actually a good sign. Many babies do develop normally even after viral meningitis, though I know that doesn't take away the worry. Keep those developmental appointments without fail, stay close to your paediatrician, and don't hesitate to flag anything that feels off to you. You know your baby best, and your gut feeling matters. Wishing your little one all the best, and do reach out to your hospital team if you need support in the meantime, whether medical or just someone to talk to.
