Chest discomfort

Is it normal to feel cheat discomfort and short of breath during the first trimester?

Yep. I was surprised by how breathless I was even though I hadn't gained much weight then. It's the increase in blood volume causing the breathlessness. As the baby gets bigger, your uterus will starting pushing upwards against your lungs, causing even more breathlessness. So take it easy ya.
