Did anyone skip their NIPT and relied on just the scan for down syndrome instead?

NIPT NT down syndrome

NIPT (also known as Harmony) is quite expensive even though it has higher accuracy on Down Syndrome risk. However, the adviser at KKH told me that NIPT might not return any result by quoting that a previous patient did NIPT numerous times but it returned no result. And also, if you are on the subsidised route, NIPT will not be subsidised if you do it first. It will only be subsidised if you do FTS first, the FTS result returns positive and you want to do NIPT to reconfirm. Since FTS is time sensitive (has to be carried out between 11 to 14 weeks of pregnancy) and NIPT can be carried out at any time of pregnancy, I decided to do FTS first. It is really up to your choice if you want to take NIPT later to reconfirm your FTS result and get further assurance.

we did FTS first as depending on the results we got from FTS, we still can choose to go for NIPT. Our FTS had intermediate risk for T21 but Dr was not worried as the scan was good and we had the intermediate risk mainly because of the calculated algorithm based on maternal age and last history. I would only recommend NIPT if u need the peace of mind AFTER doing FTS. NIPT does not have subsidy and cost abt 800-900 at KKH

Me i skipped. Me and hubby just place our faith in god, and accept what HE has given us. Am currently coming in 19 weeks and diagnose with DM. Next week will be the more detailed scan as well as to know baby's gender. God willing all will go smoothly as long as you take ur vitamins, eat right, walk when u can for sme exercise :)

I did the same this month. Also, went for FTS at KKH since NIPT is not subsidised and time sensitive. We were also told that NIPT can be subsidised, if you have a positive FTS, so we went with FTS first.

I did skip NIPT and went for FTS. It came back false positive so eventually still need to do NIPT. For a peace of mind, I will recommend to go ahead with NIPT

NIPT is 99.9% accurate so I will just take it one time and not pay for the rest of the tests.
