It's still better for you to carry puree with you as your son is too young to be eating regular food which has salt and sugar added to them. The oil used is also unknown. I don't and have never carried any puree with me as I feel that when they are below 12 months of age their main diet should be milk hence missing one day of solid should not pose as a problem. That being said my 7 month old daughter enjoys eating together with us. I always have on hand some carrot, celery or cucumber sticks or just some cut cherry tomatoes so she can have something to chew on while we enjoy our meal peacefully.

I will avoid giving outside food too, for baby below 2 years old. Reasons being the salt level of outside food is very high. And most of the outside food are added with seasonings which will burden little one's digestive system. You can prepare your own snacks e.g. biscuits, fruits, bread, porridge, and etc to feed your baby.

I agree with Stephanie; better to bring your own purees as you don't know what exactly goes into the food that's prepared. I usually have slices of fruits with me, or if I had time at home, I would bring slices of toast bread with apple puree on them. It keeps my son preoccupied while we eat.
