I guess doctor's reason to induce is due to baby's size is on bigger range. Givinf birth to a big size baby normally will end up with c-section especially if your friend's wife birth canal is small. Induction labor does have its own risk in ending up with a c-section as cervix is still not ready to dilate to give birth. I suggest your friend to discuss further with their gynae on weighing the pros and cons of having an induction birth earlier. I do have a friend who induced at week 36 due to large baby size and successfully gave birth to a healthy baby via vaginal birth.

What was the reason why the gynae wanted to admit her? And I'm guessing you mean the gynae is going to induce her labour next week. Most deliveries is waiting till the edd and letting nature take its course. But if gynae advise to deliver early, there has to be some medical reason behind it. I had to deliver earlier because my baby's head was quite big so they induced me earlier. I think have to check clearly with the gynae. And if there is no medical reason behind it, she can choose to wait till edd.

If that is the case, it may be because by due date, baby will be too big for normal delivery, she may have to opt for caesarean birth. My doctor advised me this for my first delivery too but we ended up with emergency caesarean as baby had decreased heartbeat and movement. Your friend may further clarify with the doctor to know why he advised her to induce birth. If there is no reason like Samantha said, it will be better to wait till due date.

my first kid came out at 36 weeks weighing 3.44kg. cant imagine if i were to carry on onto 38-40 weeks.. lol.. ask gynae whats the reason behind it. if its reasonable, go ahead with it. if not, then tell your gynae u refer to wait it out

@samantha I am uncertain on the exact reason. The baby is already 3+ kgs, would that be a reason enough for the recommendation?
