My friend gave me a hand-me-down Baby Bjorn. Any thoughts about using it? Been reading about those TICKS and how carriers should be ergonomic, so this pregnant mum is getting paranoid too...

Narrow based carriers are usable. Scarf hack is a way to make it ergonomic. If you are concerned or find the scarf hack troublesome, here are some ergonomic baby carrier options for newborns: - ring sling - stretchy wrap (eg Hana wrap, Moby bamboo from Cubs of Joy, K'tan) - woven wrap (eg from Jars of Fluff and Warabee) - selected soft structured carriers that can be used from birth without infant insert eg Kokadi Flip (from Fluff Mail), Emeibaby (from Baby Slings and Carriers at Jalan Pemimpin), Baby Roo (from 13thirteen) and Ergo Adapt (from Mothercare) - soft structured carriers with inbuilt infant insert eg Manduca, Boba 4G - soft structured carriers that require a separate infant insert eg Ergo carriers other than Ergo Adapt, and Tula (can be warm for baby in our weather!)

Don't ditch that Baby Bjorn as yet if it's a narrow based or non ergonomic carrier. Use this hack to make it ergonomic! You can also alternate your scarf/wrap to customise your look! ;) http://www.fineandfairblog.com/2013/12/narrow-based-carrier-scarf-hack.html?m=1

The older models of baby bjorn are not really ergonomic. Right now, the only models that are “hip-healthy” baby carriers are the Baby Carrier One and Baby Carrier We. You can go to their website at http://www.babybjorn.com/ for more info.

Thanks for the advice, Samantha! Looks like i might need to get a new carrier in view of this..

You can use the scarf hack. Don't need to get a new carrier.

thanks
