My confinement period is going to end soon. After that, when I resume back to my normal diet, is there anything I need to take note off like what can't eat or what can't drink as I am breastfeeding?

Here's a list of five foods you should limit (taken from: http://www.thebump.com/a/foods-avoid-when-breastfeeding), namely: - Fish (avoid high-mercury fishes, e.g., swordwish, king mackerel; fishes with lower levels of mercury should be fine when taken in moderation, e.g., shrimp, salmon, canned light tuna etc) - Alcohol (can be taken occasionally, simply wait till the alcohol has cleared your body before breastfeeding) - Caffeine (fine in moderation. Caffeine can passes into your bloodstream and into your breastmilk, high consumption may interfere with your baby’s sleep) - Peppermint (high intake may inhibit milk production) - Sage (also may inhibit milk production with high intake) Here’s another useful article on what to consume during breastfeeding: http://sg.theasianparent.com/diet-during-your-breastfeeding-period/

For me, I didn't have confinement food.My diet is pretty much the same before I even got pregnant. I made sure that my intake of food are less salt, less oil, balance diet consisting protein, carbs and a serving of green leafy vege and fruits daily for lunch and dinner. I try to stay away from deep fried items except for once I wanted to eat fries, not a fast food fan anyway. I used to drink coffee daily but changed to milo when I was pregnant, was told to stop milo after baby had jaundice cause I breast feed. Like most mummies said, moderation is the key. there are no rules as to what can and what cannot be eaten, and everyone reacts different to milk boosters and killers.

There is basically nothing you can't eat or drink. You can have anything you want but all in moderation. For example, many thinks that caffine in coffee isn't good for babies but I have been drinking since pregnancy till now that my gal is 8 years old, everything seemed ok. She even top her class. Lol However, do note what you eat in case baby has any allergic reactions to the food you eat which is from your breast milk.

Here's a good link for breastfeeding diet FAQ's: http://sg.theasianparent.com/breastfeeding-diet-faq/ I've generally stayed away from caffeine (okay, actually just coffee and cola since I can't resist chocolate!) and alcohol (I wait 2 hours after minimal consumption of the occasional wine). Then I try to eat healthy and nutritious food :) Hope this helps!

To me, eat food in moderation. For breastfeeding, had tried oats, grains, fish and milk help but all these also depends on individuals. It may work for me but not for you. Having said that, do cut down or reduce oily food ... fried food especially.
