Norway or New Zealand salmon?

Any mummy out there feed their children salmon? Like after 1 year old? If yes, Norway or new Zealand salmon is better? Let me know your food journey too! :)

Ooh, this is such a good question, a few of us have actually debated this! From what I've generally heard, New Zealand salmon (especially the King Salmon varieties like Ora King or Mount Cook) tends to have a more delicate, buttery flavour which toddlers seem to take to more easily, versus Norwegian salmon which is richer and meatier, both are lovely, just different textures. One of my mum friends swears by NZ salmon for her little one partly because the farming practices there are generally considered cleaner, with fewer concerns about pathogens compared to some Norwegian open-pen farms. That said, Norwegian salmon is much easier to find here at the supermarket and is still a solid, nutritious choice if that's what's available to you. Some mums love the Norwegian for its firmer texture when pan-frying little flakes for toddlers, so honestly both can work, just go for the freshest you can get and start with small portions to check for any reactions!

I really feel you on this, it is such a common question among mums here and I went through the same dilemma when my girl started solids. We tried both and honestly she took to Norwegian salmon really well, it tends to be fattier and richer in omega-3s which I felt was good for her brain development at that age. I would just make sure whichever you choose, you steam or pan-fry it simply without too much seasoning, and always check for bones carefully before serving lah. Both are fine options, so just go with what is fresher at your usual supermarket on the day you buy it.
