Hi there! I totally understand how exhausting it can be to work while being 34 weeks pregnant. It's completely normal to feel tired and in need of some rest. When it comes to asking your gynae for HL (I'm assuming you mean hospital leave), it's definitely worth discussing with your doctor at your next appointment. At 36 to almost 37 weeks, you are nearing the end of your pregnancy, and it's important to prioritize your health and well-being, as well as that of your baby. Your gynae will consider your individual circumstances and may approve HL if they believe it's necessary for your health and the health of your baby. I would recommend being honest with your gynae about how you're feeling and explaining why you think HL would be beneficial for you at this stage. They may also be able to provide other recommendations or support to help manage your fatigue and discomfort during these last few weeks. Remember that taking care of yourself is so important, especially during this special time of growing a little human. I hope your gynae is understanding and supportive of your needs. Wishing you all the best as you approach the final stretch of your pregnancy! #pregnancy #1sttimemom https://invl.io/cll6she
I am seeing a private specialist with astra womens' specialist. I asked when I see the doc at 34 weeks but he explained that he cannot give HL readily just like that because MOH is coming down hard on errant doctors who give MC and HL like freebies. He said that maternity leave can be taken before delivery and unless there is a strong reason for issuing HL, MOH may reconsider the doctor's license. I told him I'm a full-time teacher at a neighbourhood secondary school and it is very tiring to take the stairs and speak for long hours (I have back-to-back 3h hours at one shot with no break in between). He said he will review my condition when I see him at 36 weeks. My fellow teacher colleagues asked me why I'm not taking a break yet now that most weighted assessments are over and I've done my part to teach and mark...so I feel you. I resort to seeing GP and taking 1-2 day of MC just to rest (started to develop tension headaches from all the physical exertions in school).
I think it really depends on your gynae! Some gynaes are very generous with HL, and I’ve heard of friends going the KKH private route who got 4-6 weeks HL. But some didn’t get HL at all until week 38. If you can work from home, I’ve also heard of some gynaes giving wfh memos, if that helps! It wouldn’t hurt to ask, let your gynae know how you’re really feeling!
Hi there!:) I think it depends on which hospital & gynae? As I’m currently under private patient at NUH. When I was at 34 weeks, I told my gynae that I was having pelvic pain and slight braxton hicks and my gynae issued me 2 weeks of HL. However she has informed me that typically she will give HL 2 weeks before EDD to rest.
I’m with KKH private. I first broached the subject of HL week 31+ check up just to get a sensing of the gynae’s preference and she was v receptive, said she can do so in the next appt in 4 weeks time. Got my HL (2 weeks first) in week 35 going 36. Then another extension to EDD in my week 38 appt.
Which doctor is this? Thanks!
My gynae was v caring and always asks if I need but I didn’t need, but private clinic. I think you can bring up to your gynae that you’re tired/breathless/back pain etc, I did experience all that too. I think your gynae should understand hopefully!

I guess it depends on ur gynae and your type of job and also your complaints. mine I get 4 week HL at 34 weeks as my job scope need to move around alot and carry people. I work as a paramedic. that's why the dr give I guess.
It depends on your gynae! Was a private patient at NUH but mine wasn't so giving. I was really huge by 35 weeks and walking/working/existing was just hard enough. But my gynae only gave me at 37 weeks.
Actually, you can inform your gynae already that you are tired from work. I did that too around 34 weeks and I got about 4 weeks of HL from my gynae.
