Extend opened fm shelf life
Hi mummies, may I know if there's any way to extend the shelf life of fm? Would it help if I decant half the fm powder, put it into an airtight container and freeze it? The brand I'm buying doesn't have a smaller tin, and I don't wish to just throw out the fm after a month of opening.

The airtight container idea is a good one for keeping moisture and air out, but most mums I know would caution against freezing formula powder specifically, the freeze-thaw cycle can affect the powder's texture and how well it mixes, which isn't ideal for something going into baby's tummy. Someone in my mum group mentioned that vacuum-sealing the decanted portion (rather than freezing) works better for extending shelf life, since it removes the air that causes the powder to degrade faster. That said, there's a real trade-off: the more you handle and transfer the powder between containers, the more you risk introducing moisture or contamination, so your hygiene and storage conditions matter a lot. It's worth checking with your PD or a pharmacist too, since formula shelf life guidelines exist for good reason and what works for one brand may not apply to another.
