Diaper poop
Hi mummies! My 3wk old newborn on formula milk hasn't poop for 2days so far. Is this a concern? Howany times in a day does a newborn on formula milk has to poop? I have stop breastfeeding for him recently due to engorged. Now he doesn't know how to latch again hence he is fully on formula. I'm a lil bit upset as it has affected him Abit. He seems bloated at times we had to play ard with 60/90ml cause we couldn't figure out of he is hungry or gassy at times.

I totally understand the worry, it's stressful when you're trying to figure out what's normal, especially after switching to formula! The good news is that 2 days without a poop is actually quite normal for formula-fed babies; some can even go up to 10 days and be totally fine, since formula is less stimulating to the digestive system than breastmilk. That said, if he's looking bloated or uncomfortable, a few things tend to help: gentle belly massage in clockwise circles, or bicycle motions with his legs can get things moving, and some mums swear by a bit of gripe water to help with the gas and bloating. The 60/90ml variation you're doing sounds smart too, it takes time for babies to signal properly, and his system is still adjusting to the formula change. I do want to say honestly that the latch situation must be frustrating for you, and it's worth having a chat with your doctor or a lactation consultant if you ever want to try breastfeeding again, sometimes it's possible to get back on track even after a few weeks. For now, keep an eye on whether he's having wet nappies and seems alert and settled most of the time; those are usually better signs than poop frequency alone. Do check in with your GP or child health clinic just to be sure everything's progressing well, especially since you're navigating a feeding change.

The good news is that two days without a poop is actually quite normal for formula-fed newborns; they can go anywhere from once a day to every few days, and some babies even stretch it to over a week without it being a problem. What matters more is whether his tummy feels hard and uncomfortable or if he seems to be in pain, if he's his usual self otherwise, that's a good sign. Since you've just switched to full formula, his system is still adjusting, which can definitely affect his rhythm. A lot of mums I know have found that gentle tummy massages, bicycle leg movements, or even a warm bath can help him relax and get things moving if he does seem a bit bloated. The fact that you're watching his intake and trying different volumes shows you're on top of it, it's tricky at first to read the hunger and gas cues, but you'll get there. That said, if after a week he still hasn't gone or his belly feels really hard and tight, or if he seems uncomfortable, it's definitely worth a quick chat with your GP or pediatrician just to rule out anything. And I'm sorry the breastfeeding journey didn't work out as you'd hoped, that can be really disappointing, but you're doing brilliantly making sure he's fed and cared for. Hang in there!
