Hair rebonding while pregnant?

Hi mommies, has anyone tried hair rebonding while pregnant? Is it considered safe, especially because of the chemicals and smell? I’ll also check with my OB, but I’d love to hear your experiences or advice. Thank you!

Aiyoh this one quite a few mummies in my group have talked about before! My friend went to do rebonding when she was like 5 months along and said her salon actually advised her to wait till second trimester at least, because the chemicals and the smell in an enclosed space can make you feel very nauseous and dizzy — especially since skin becomes more sensitive when pregnant lah. Someone in my mum WhatsApp group mentioned that her doctor told her the chemicals don't really absorb through the skin so the risk is quite low, but another auntie was more kancheong and said she heard in more serious cases the stronger chemicals like sodium hydroxide can potentially enter the bloodstream, so she just chose to wait until after delivery to be safe. Some mummies here are quite relaxed about it, a few others preferred not to risk it — I think it really depends on how well-ventilated the salon is and which stage of pregnancy you're at, so maybe request to sit near an open window or door if you do go! Since every pregnancy is different, do still check with your OB first before going ahead — better to get that peace of mind from your own doctor right? 😊

Honestly, I was so tempted to rebond my hair when I was pregnant too, but I decided to play it safe and just wait until after delivery — the chemicals and the strong smell in those salons made me a bit nervous, especially in the first trimester. Since there isn't a lot of clear research on this, I think it's really good that you're checking with your OB first, as they'll know your situation best. Better to be safe lah, and the rebonding can always wait a few more months! 😊
