Considering a helper
Leading up to my EDD, am considering if I should get a helper. Am not used to having someone else living with us and it also takes time to get used to a rhythm, and just wanted to get thoughts from experienced mummies! #askmommies

Honestly, I was also quite hesitant about having a live-in helper before my first was born, but it made a huge difference during confinement and the first few months when I was really struggling with sleep and recovery. The adjustment period is real though - it took us a good two weeks to settle into a routine and find our rhythm. I'd say if you can afford it and have the space, it's worth considering at least for the first few months postpartum, because honestly those early days are tough and having someone to help with housework and cooking while you focus on baby and rest is a game changer. If you're unsure, maybe try for a few months first rather than committing long-term, that's what some of my mum friends did and it worked out well for them.
Read morewill this be your first kid? also do u have any help at home lets say mother or in law? is your husband hands on and willing to help at any time? these are all the questions u shld ask before considering a helper. if there is no help and u are struggling, maybe can consider confinement nanny for short term during yr recovery, or if need be helper for long term. is not easy to find suitable helper but is a gamble that nobody knows too. if you feel very in need of help, then consider getting helper rather than stressed out. I was against having helper too. but now my #2 is coming, I just hired one cus really struggle with housework and cleaning everyday if no help..
Read moreMaybe try those temporary one from urban company or smth first… fully commit to a full time one when things are more stable at home? We had to change helpers 2 times before finding the one without attitude or work issues. Cos need time to train and all. Each time change the cost is thousands- even tho its not our fault. The first abused my mom. The second took nude pics of my baby and likes running off with bangladeshi workers late at night. Horrible.. So being able to switch out helpers is a true luxury. They just help w housework and baby if need be.
Read moreI hired a helper when my baby is 2months old, so at least i get to train n watch how she handles things at home before i start working 1.5 months later. She starts with the house chores for the first week, before i let her touch my baby, cos i need to watch how clean she is first! Cctv is a must!!
Getting a helper free you up for more quality bonding with your child. So u should get it, I struggled at first with someone living in my house but soon get used to it. The pros outweighs the cons in my opinion if u get a good helper.
If you don't have much support at home, getting a helper before your EDD can make the newborn phase much easier. Just try to have her start a little early so everyone has time to adjust.
