For newborn, socks are more snug and hold better, but when bb is slightly older, booties are more spacious so it's not too warm esp in hot weather. But it really depends on baby if she kicks alot since most newborns would be swaddled up. We got a mix of both, and new booties were kept for newborn stage since hand me downs would have become much looser too.. when we headed out, baby will be wearing socks :)

I find socks and booties always fall off when baby is young. So I use footed baby pant that covered up to the toes to keep baby warm.
socks. Booties never worked for my kids. I plan to stick with socks when the third ones arrives. :)
Socks! Booties look cute but are so unpractical. Or better still, get some footed onesies.
