I don't like the idea of using a soft cloth as there are fibres on the cloth that can get stuck to your nipples and be consumed by baby. Unless the cloth you're using is gauze or mueslin type where the fibre doesn't come off. I don't find nipple wipes necessary as baby takes it more bacteria from their curious hands than from our breasts. Haha. Although we do perspire but our clothing prevents dirt and dust from accumulating. We should not be cleaning our nipples too often cause it removes the natural oil from our skin and dries out the nipple making it painful for breastfeeding and can crack easily. Practically speaking, I don't have time to wipe my nipples with a wailing baby. Hahaha. But I do have a few packets of NUK nipple wipes in my bag as a spare. When I have the luxury of time, I use it since I already bought it. It's pure water and no fibre comes out from the wipe. Good stuff!

I bought a box of nipple wipes after giving birth to second child. I find it is very wasteful as I need to wipe each time before nursing especially during initial months where baby tends to nurse more often. I would like to suggest to use wet cloth with boiled water to wipe and it is more economical. However, you may standby nipple wipes when you are outside with baby as it is more convenient to use ready one.

I think nipple wipes are necessary if you are breastfeeding on the. If you are at home u can just use a soft cloth. But this also depends on why do you need nipple wipes. Does your LO throw up while feeding (many do this) ? If yes I would deinitely suggest going for a nipple wipe and if this isnt the case then just use a soft cloth while at home and wipes while u feed on go.

Actually... I don't think it's necessary. I don't wipe my nipples before breastfeeding either. If you're concerned, I'd think a wet handkerchief would suffice.

I don't think it's a must, but it makes you feel cleaner (at least mentally), but you can also just use a soft cloth with water.

thanks pavin, i guess if we're on the go, the wipes will come in handy esp in SG's hot weather. hehe.. any good brands to recommend?

I don'f find a need for nipple wipe but if you find a need to, you can use baby wipes which are made of pure water.
