Trying to wean off diclectin

I’m currently week 17 day 6 today. Ive been on diclectin 1 pill everyday since my Week 8. I tried to wean off 3x after I passed the week 13 mark, but the next day it seems to come back with a vengeance with nausea and vomiting at the end of the day. I’m feeling afraid of self weaning as I have to work and wonder if anyone has any tips for weaning off Diclectin? #firstmom #pleasehelp I think I’m also a little psychologically affected if I take my diclectin later on some days. I’ll feel the sourish taste in my mouth from thickened saliva.

Oh mama, hang in there, week 17 and still dealing with this is really tough, especially when you're working! A few of us went through the same thing, and the general experience seems to be that weaning too quickly is what causes that "rebound" nausea, so going slower than you think you need to is really the key, like stretching it out over a week or two rather than just stopping suddenly. One of my mum friends who was on the same medication found that shifting her timing slightly earlier each day (rather than skipping doses) helped her body adjust without the vomiting coming back hard. On the psychological side with the saliva and sour taste, that actually sounds like it might be a separate symptom called ptyalism, which some mums get on top of the nausea, so it's worth flagging that specifically rather than just assuming it's all tied to the medication timing. That said, since you've already had three unsuccessful attempts and you're still symptomatic past week 13, it's really worth having a proper chat with your gynae or KKH doctor before trying again, they can give you a proper tapering plan that fits your specific dosage and schedule, so you're not just guessing while managing work at the same time.

Hi mum, I totally get the fear because once the nausea comes back it really affects work and daily life. I remember some mums saying they tried reducing too fast and ended up feeling terrible again, so maybe don’t rush yourself to stop just because you passed a certain week. If every time you cut down the symptoms come back badly, maybe check with your gynae first and ask if there’s a slower way to taper because every pregnancy really behaves differently.
