If both you and your spouse have terrible eyesights and wear glasses, does that mean your children will inherit this bad gene?

According to research that I found, "if both your parents are nearsighted, then you have about a 1 in 3 chance of being nearsighted too. If only 1 of your parents is nearsighted, then you have a 1 in 5 chance of being nearsighted. If neither of your parents is nearsighted, then you have less than a 1 in 40 chance." To summarize, it would appear that there's a good chance that genetics has something to do with eyesight. http://genetics.thetech.org/ask/ask73

Yes, that may be true to a certain extent. While genetics can be linked to myopia, other environmental factors such as excessive near work, bad posture and lighting conditions can also be attributed to exacerbate the progression of myopia. Here is an interesting article explaining myopia and genetics. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/scientific-breakthrough-in-study-of-the-genetics-of-myopia-8489016.html
