What to do during baby’s wake period

Any ideas what i should do when baby’s awake for long or during his wake period? Other than tummy time or talking to baby. My baby is 1 month+. Also Is it normal to sometimes feel awkward talking to your own baby, like you have nothing to talk about. I feel like if im not doing anything during his wake period it will hinder his development ? As im not helping him develop his motor skills etc #firsttimemom #advicepls

You can buy those black and white books/ flash cards for baby to see. Black and white toys that makes noise such as rattles and shake it in front of baby to train baby’s tracking ability. Can also frequently rub baby’s palms and feet (lightly!) so they will develop motor skills such as grabbing faster. I found that talking frequently to baby is best. It doesn’t have to make sense. I always just say hi, ask how my baby is feeling. Say good morning and tell my baby what the weather is like etc and I usually just keep repeating the same things. If baby keeps listening to you talk they will pick up tones of the language very quickly. At 1 month they still can’t communicate so they will just stare at you and you will feel damn awkward but it is normal. They are listening and learning. If you really can’t think of what to say, you can try reading to baby as well. The context is not important at this point baby is just picking up sounds. My baby is currently 2.5 months now and he is starting to make sounds with his mouth when I talk to him because he stares at my mouth when I talk and I think he is trying to imitate. It is definitely more interesting now.

Yea I felt super awkward 'speaking' to my baby when he was that age. Because no reaction from the baby, so it's like I'm talking to myself. 😅 I guess you can start off with reading books, so that you don't feel so silly. It gets waaay better by 2-3 months because baby will start to give eye contact, blabber, smile and laugh by then!

Play nursery rhymes, my baby loves it when I sing along and clap my hands. Can also carry him and walk around the house and introduce the household items / furniture. I also talk to my baby like talking to a friend, like I’ll tell her about my day etc.

Can do tummy time with your bb with a fun interactive play mat like this :) https://shope.ee/9KH0V1T8XR

B&W flash cards, play nursery songs, I just talk about my day to my son too.
