Refrigerated milk can be stored for 3-8 days. Frozen milk can be kept for 3-4 months (some guides even state up to 6 months) To warm up breast milk, simply hold the thawed (thawing overnight in fridge can help shorten warming time, thawed milk can be kept in the fridge for up to 24 hours, do not refreeze thawed milk) milk under lukewarm running water to warm it up. Alternatively, you can also place the sealed container holding the thawed milk into a bowl of warm water for about 20 mins to bring it to body temperature (around 37 degrees). Be sure to avoid using hot water so that you can preserve the full nutritional value of breast milk. After warming, swirls the container to mix the cream. Do not reuse any unfinished breast milk. The milk could be “contaminated” by the bacteria from your baby’s mouth. It is best to discard. Never use the microwave to heat up the milk. If you have alot of excess, my suggestion would be to put it straight to the freezer as you can keep it up to 3 mths in a normal freezer and 6 mths in a deep freezer. Should you put inside the fridge then transfer to the normal freezer, it may not be cold enough thus you are unable to keep for as long as 3 mths. We want the best for our babies so the best is still latching then keeping the excess in the most freshest state.
