I'd definitely bring this up with your O&G at your next appointment, because every case is a bit different and they'll know your exact situation better than anyone else. My friend had something similar and her doctor was quite strict about keeping her resting at home rather than going back to work straight away, but it really depends on how low the placenta is sitting and whether there are any other risk factors. Since you've been cleared of bleeding that's a good sign, but low lying placenta can be unpredictable, so it might be worth asking your doctor specifically about returning to work rather than just going by the 2 weeks medical leave they gave you. Better to err on the side of caution at this stage of pregnancy, especially since your colleague's advice makes sense - most doctors do prefer mums with low lying placenta to rest more.
