Jogging in third trimester

I used to run regularly prior to pregnancy almost everyday. My gynae says it’s ok to continue running as long as I don’t exert myself but I’m just wondering if running during late pregnancy will damage our pelvic floor/ prolong postpartum recovery period?

Great that your gynae has already given you the green light, that's really the most important first step! The general view among mums I've spoken to is that continuing to run in the third trimester isn't automatically harmful, but the impact and downward pressure do increase as baby gets heavier, so some women find they naturally need to slow down or switch to brisk walking without it feeling like a step backward. Pairing your runs with consistent pelvic floor work, things like Kegels and pelvic tilts, seems to be what makes the real difference in protecting your recovery, rather than stopping running altogether. My friend went to a prenatal pilates class and said the instructor was really specific about how to engage the pelvic floor correctly during exercise, which she found more useful than just doing Kegels blindly at home. The trade-off to weigh is really this: staying active tends to support better postpartum recovery, but high-impact activity without good pelvic floor conditioning can prolong it, so the two go hand in hand. Worth having a quick chat with a women's health physio as well, since they can assess your specific pelvic floor function and give you a much clearer picture than general advice can.
