5 weeks is really young. At this stage, you do what you need to do to get baby to sleep. They’re very prone to getting overtired at this stage, so get baby to sleep on time with whatever works. I started putting baby to sleep via patting after 2 months. Not foolproof, but the success rate’s increased dramatically (almost 4mo now), and she’s also learnt to self soothe sometimes. All these require patience and time. But sleep training usually starts from about 4 months. Prior to that, start teaching baby the difference between day and night, and also establish a strict routine and bedtime cues. Those will help greatly:)
Agree with the rest, 5-weeks still a bit young? I started my son on bedtime routine at about 3.5 months and after 1 month, it was a success! But occasionally the naughty one still wants to be carried to sleep... My mom says sometimes baby having bad day or just want to feel extra secure, so I will rock him a little before putting him down 😊 Quite pitiful especially when he so tired but unsure why not falling asleep...
When i was sleep training my daughter at 6 weeks old, when she cried I took around 5 mins later to pick her up and rock her till sleepy and put her down. By 2 months plus she was able to sleep by herself. Sometimes throughout the night! Of cos most of the time still wake up only once at night.
Probably still too young to leave baby to self-soothe and fall asleep. I carry and rock my LO to sleep until about 4mo. After started sending her to infant care and at about 4.5mo, she was able to fall asleep on her own when we put her in her cot and off the room lights.
Too young to sleep train now. Just do whatever you can to make the baby sleep.
My baby do not sleep until I rock him when he was younger.
