Interesting question. I think these "criminals" usually don't see themselves as criminals per se or bad people. As twisted as it may be, perhaps they see themselves as just providing for their families and doing whatever it takes to do so. I'm not condoning what they do but criminals often see their acts as justified. If they are parents, I don't think they will want their child to live the same life they do. Maybe they will impart qualities like being street smart, good with money, strategic, strength, fearlessness and other elements you'd associate with people involved in crime but not necessarily violence and intimidation. That's my 2 cents anyways.

just as no one is born a criminal similarly no one wants to be criminal out of choice...esp no one wants their kids to be such. all have the potential to do good towards their own. those who follow this rule in all their choices and ways are not criminals. I remember reading in a newspaper when about a terrorist who got killed, his family was asked, the children said that he treated them well and was a good parent. I strongly feel that parenting is a very strong force in doing and creating the right personality. it's a matter of choices...
