I have read that chewing or sucking would help. So offering the bottle, the pacifier, or some snacks (if baby has started solids) may help minimize the discomfort. Another thing is note is that pressure change is typically more noticeable during the initial descent (and not so much the landing), which could take place as much as half an hour or more before landing. The higher the cruising altitude is, the earlier in the flight the descent would start. Hence, if you yourself do not experience the "ear popping" sensation, you can check with the crew on board to let you know when the plane would start the initial descent, so that you can prepare to give the items to your baby. Hope this helps!
