Yes, they're great for baby's first solid! Try one time first then gradually increase to twice a day when baby has get used to eating. Remember, baby's first solid is just for fun to let them taste food but main is still milk until 1 yrs old. Only give sips of plain water, not too much.

I think rice is a safe choice also because the risk of allergy is very low. I personally started with brown rice, then avocado. (:
