How effective are mosquito patches? and recommendations?

Most parents prefer patches as it has minimal skin contact so less chance of absorption thru the skin. However the patch is also not 100% effective as my nephew still got bitten even though he was wearing 2 patches, 1 on his shirt and 1 on his shorts for full body coverage (According to my cousin). Tiger Balm is a fav among mothers who uses patches
