How do you deal with an overly hot tempered spouse?

I keep silent na lang muna until he has vented all his emotions. Mas lalong humahaba argument pag sasagot pa ako sa kanya although minsan parang hindi natin kaya magtimpi, but it really needs a lot of practice.
