Is pacifier ok?

Hi. Heard many bad reviews about using pacifier. Mummies who let their babies use pacifier, is it ok? Is it bad for baby's teeth next time? Is there any colic issue? I tried pacifier once but my baby doesn't like it. Recently she kept biting her hands so I tried again and she wants it now. But I'm worried about the cons of using pacifier. Any advice pls? TIA.

Using a pacifier is a common topic of discussion among parents, especially regarding its effects on the baby's teeth and the possibility of causing colic issues. While there are concerns about pacifier use, it can be okay when used appropriately. Here are some insights to consider: 1. **Dental Concerns**: Prolonged pacifier use can potentially affect the alignment of the baby's teeth and the development of the mouth. To minimize these risks, it is advisable to wean off the pacifier by around age two to prevent any long-term dental issues. 2. **Colic Issues**: Some studies suggest that pacifier use might actually reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and can help soothe a fussy baby. However, there is also a concern that overuse of the pacifier might interfere with breastfeeding and cause nipple confusion. 3. **Personal Preference**: Every baby is different, and some may find comfort in using a pacifier while others may not take to it. If your baby seems to enjoy the pacifier and it helps to calm her, you can consider using it in moderation and weaning off gradually as she grows older. 4. **Biting Hands**: Babies often explore the world through their mouths, so your baby biting her hands is a natural behavior. If she seems to enjoy the pacifier now, you can use it as a soothing tool. However, always monitor her oral health and ensure proper dental care as she grows. In conclusion, it's important to weigh the pros and cons of pacifier use and make an informed decision based on your baby's needs and comfort. If you have concerns about dental issues or potential colic problems, you can consult with your pediatrician or a dentist for personalized advice. Remember, every baby is unique, so trust your instincts as a parent and do what feels right for your little one. https://invl.io/cll6she

I was initially against pacifiers cos I worry they might affect the growth of the teeth. But since I've read that pacifiers help prevent SIDS, I put it on for him when he sleeps. But he himself doesn't really like it. If you don't want baby to get too used to pacifiers, maybe limit the usage of it first?

Mine started since day 1 for my sanity, self weaned at 18mo (I would weaned her off by 2yo if she didn’t). No issues with her teeth as of now (2.5yo) and she didn’t had any colic issues. If you don’t want her to be on paci most of the time, try offering only during naps/sleep.

I started using pacifier for my baby at 6 weeks old. I read that pacifier reduces the risk of SIDS so that's why I used it even though I was hesitant at first. Also read that sucking on something comforts them, so I only limit pacifier use to extreme crying 😅
